Nutmeg

So I'm working on a book set in the Caribbean where they grow a lot of nutmeg, and even though it's not exactly about nutmeg, I think the whole fruit is exquisite and have developed somewhat of an obsession. When it's ripe, the fruit splits open (like above) and you can see the red strands of mace that surround a shell that is around the nutmeg. It amazes me that there are so many layers before you get to the spice. And it's just dang pretty.
