More proof I have too much time on my hands

On Tuesday Ellie celebrated her half birthday at preschool. We can all do the math together and realize that her half birthday is not until January, but since Ellie asks daily to celebrate the anniversary of her birth, she was thrilled to bring treats:

We made strawberry cupcakes with strawberry frosting and flowers molded out of Starbursts:

The Starburst flowers were an afternoon Moira's nap project. Ellie unwrapped them and then I cut each Starburst into four pieces and microwaved those four pieces for 8 seconds to soften them and then we squished them into petal shapes. Time for a little more math: each cupcake had six pieces on it (five petals and a center) and there were twenty four cupcakes. That's 144 pieces of Starburst. I think Ellie squished three. Maybe. And then I squished the rest while she ate more starbursts. Good times.

Ellie also got to bring an item for show and tell. She chose this alphabet puzzle and yes, she took it with a missing "O"
I was curious why she chose this and Ellie didn't disappoint. When asked why her puzzle was special, she replied "Because God made it."

I hate to break it to her, but it was actually made in China. And purchased at DollarTree.

Other highlights from the week:

Moira thinks she can feed herself:
And we braved frigid wind to play at the park in the leaves with Peter and Henry:

Moira was very content on my lap, thank you very much:

I set her in the leaves and she complained:
Until she found a leaf friend:

Also, we went drove around downtown like a bunch of small town hicks marveling at all them there tall buildings and went letterboxing at the old deaf school park where there is a topiary reproduction of George Seurat's Sunday Afternoon on the Island Of LaGrande Jatte:

Very fun.

Finally, tomorrow Chris takes his candidacy exam. He just gave me his presentation and I was RIVETED. So, of course he'll do great.

I was wondering who brought those cupcakes to school. I saw the leftovers in the hall and thought they were adorable. Morgan told me all about them - they were a hit with the kids. Cute idea!

how'd it go for chris?

i just love your kids. you are the best mom evah. i want cupcakes! my half birthday is the 29th of this month. ;-D

this week was e's week to take the treat bucket to dance. most of the time they get fruit snacks or mini candy bars. but i forgot to pick something up on saturday. so i called my SIL to pick something up. she came home with gift bags that we filled with necklaces, hot cocoa, suckers, starbursts, and rolos; all on her dime. it was all worth in when i went to pick e up and the girls were squealing to their parents about their NEW necklaces! and hot cocoa! and candy! i could feel the parents eyes shooting daggers in my direction, but we certainly had fun! ;-D

LOVE the photo where the leaves are mid-air! And I love how little kids can't wait until their birthday, Jordan had his a week ago and he's already planning the next one. Cute cupcakes! How I wish I had little girls to do projects with!
