Tips for moving yourself

1. Saran wrap. Buy a big roll from Costco (it's cheaper than the specifically for moving kind) and wrap it around all your furniture. Also use it to keep bubble wrap (or extra blankets) around picture frames.

2. To make boxes of books lighter pack them half full with books and then fill up with clothes.

3. Save plastic shopping bags to stuff around kitchen breakables--much neater than newspaper.

4. Pack a box with necessities--toilet paper, extra toiletries, soap, a few boxes of mac and cheese, a toy or two (if you have kids) and label it "Open first."

5. Take apart furniture (tables, futon, cribs) to conserve room in the moving van.

6. Use ABF.

7. Get free boxes from the produce department of local stores. If you call, most stores will tell you when they unload their stock and will sometimes save boxes for you.

8. Turn off your electricity, gas, water, and phone.

9. Forward your mail.

Anything other tips I'm missing?

So you haven't reconsidered staying in Ohio? Do you need someone to watch your kids while you pack?

Walk through your empty apartment just before you lock the door for the last time and cry, scratch that, I mean relish the happiness you feel seeing it all for the last time.

Good list.

pack all of your dishes. invest in paper products. pack all of your toiletries, invest in sample sizes. it'll save you when you're throwing stuff you *thought* you would use until the last possible second but didn't actually use at all. oh, and become very good friends with the mcdonald's (or other preferable fast food joints) drive thru guy!

(((hugs)))
