38 weeks 1 day

A few friends have sent me emails or commented about knowing this pregnancy is getting down to the wire.  I'm hoping I don't deliver before May 28th.  Here's why:

1.  Chris needs to finish a draft of his dissertation.
2.  I haven't finished this baby's blanket.  I've made all of my kids flannel blankets when I've been expecting, but this one hasn't come together as quickly. In the past, I made rag quilts for the girls, but they involve HUNDREDS of flannel and batting squares which my two other kids would spread around as snowflakes and frisbees.  So I opted for Stephanie's faux chenille pattern.  It's much less messy, but not any less time consuming; I'm only a third of the way through sewing the seams.
3.  I'm still sleeping at night (except Chris says I snore).  A newborn will inevitably be up at night whereas now after I go to the bathroom, I go right back to sleep.
4.  I'd really like a 7 lb baby.  Every day is another ounce, right?  By my calculations, the 4 lb 11 oz estimation on April 22 translates to only a 6 lb 2 oz baby today.
5.  Labor.  I know I can do it, but I don't feel mentally prepared.

Funny thing:  I think I shocked the doctor when I asked how NOT to induce labor.  He said that's the first time anyone's asked him that.  Any ideas?

How not to induce labor! I bet he was shocked ;)

I don't have any tips for you in that area, since by 38 weeks, I'm usually in labor anyway.

Did you go early with the girls?

I think I still have some of my medicine left . . . J/K! :)
Actually, massages and warm baths really helped by keeping your uterus muscles relaxed.

i think that i personally have kept a couple of mine in utero by sheer will...
i just wasn't ready mentally and so my body cooperated on the physical end.
on #2 i woke one day and said, "i've finished the projects and i'm ready." The next morning, LABOR.
i think the mind is a powerful tool...

I was just talking to my midwife yesterday about the difference between first pregnancies and all the ones after. She said with her first she bought her nursery furniture two days after she took a pregnancy test, but with her second, she was 40 weeks pregnant and painting the nursery. So true. Good luck with your blanket.

And I am sure you'll do a great job with labor - you have a pretty good track record, right?

I always delivered 3-5 weeks early so don't ask me how to prolong pregnancy...but a six pounder is a good size so don't worry too much about her being too little. They're easier to get out! I had two six pound babies and they were both healthy when born and were both easy labors. Good luck!!!!

Maybe you should start saying you are ready, and then you are guaranteed to NOT start labor. ;)

Do whatever you've been doing... nothing really helps start it anyway!
although I'm really liking Heather's idea... start saying you're ready and you're sure to not have labor.
Oh, and avoid the cheese aisle at Walmart.
