Eliza's Church Talk

making another Happy Muthrs Day Card

Today is Mother's Day and it was beautiful. But my favorite part was the talk that Eliza wrote and read by herself today in primary. I helped her read the scripture at the beginning when she was nervous, but then she took over by the end and I was in tears with the beauty.

I was really inspired by Elder Bednar's talk from last conference about teaching children to act and not to be acted upon, so I wanted Ellie (even though she's only 5) to write her talk for primary. Here's what she came up with (with only a few prompting questions like"What is faith?" and "Have you felt the Holy Ghost?"):
The fourth Article of Faith says: “We believe the first principles and ordinances of the gospel are first, faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ; second, repentance; third, baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
Faith is knowing the sun will rise and that Heavenly Father and Jesus made the sun and the moon and us. Repentance is saying you’re sorry and trying harder to be like Jesus. We get baptized so our sins will be washed away and the gift of the Holy Ghost tells me the truth of all things.
Once when I was playing with friends, they started putting rocks and leaves on my little sister’s head. The Holy Ghost told me to get out of the tree I was in and go get my mom. I listened and got my mom. My mom came to stop the kids from putting rocks and leaves on my sister’s head.
I have a testimony that Heavenly Father and Jesus love me and they love you, too. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

What amazing understanding and faith for a 5-year-old. What great parents who have helped guide her.

Wow what an amazing girl she is and I think you are awesome for being able to step back and let her do it! That's hard for me.

Wow. She's good at writing already ...

You may have to clear a place for her to have a closet/writing desk, too.
