Ruby Reba

The name of my blog (which I've been writing on for the past 3 years) comes from a nickname that a boy in college gave me and that I liked the sound of. Funny, but I couldn't tell you the boy's name.

The blog description under the header has changed a few times. Originally, when I first started blogging, it said "my life through rose-colored glasses" because I wanted to remind myself to post the positive and also because no one really seems to blog about all the aspects of their lives-it's just too hard to have an extensive record of negative life events.

And then for a long while there was no description and the posts were sporadic and I was in and out of morning sickness and postpartum depression.

But this last week, I came across a quote that I mostly like: "Treating yourself like a precious object makes you strong" and I thought, hey, ruby. And I think there's some truth to the saying: by focusing on our strengths instead of failings we are able to develop and grow and be strong. I try to find ways to be nice to myself: sweeping the floor instead of waking up to crumbs, buying strawberries, wearing earrings, smiling. But I don't like being an object. I've been thinking of words that would be better and I think I like person. Treating yourself like a precious person makes you strong. I really believe that.
