Fun with sticks and string

Thursday Ellie told me we needed to go fishing , so we fashioned a pole out of sticks and string and headed outside. Within moments the front walk was flooded with kids and we made more and more fishing poles and the kids played for almost two hours with no one's eyes getting poked out.

Here's Ellie showing everyone how it's done: (notice how she's being really responsible and staying out of the street?)

And then Avery joins in:

Next we check to see if the grass fish are biting (with Evan and Henry):

And then back to the street fish (red-headed Henry says he's hoping for a Gila monster):

And finally, here's Ellie abandoning her fishing pole and using her fingers to catch a shark (I assume the shark, like most puddle sharks, is fairly small):

haha, i love it. what lovely imaginations you all have. you're such a patient loving mama!

at a work party 2 years ago E won a drawing for prizes. she got to pick WHATEVER she wanted... the prize she picked? a GI JOE fishing pole. which we of course taught her to cast down the stairs and reel it on in. never ceases to amaze me.
