This week

Well, I've been sitting here for a half hour in our new office closet with Ellie climbing all over me to get to the white board and not coming up with much to say about our week. Sometimes all the good things that happen get lost in all the day to day details that I want to remember but that don't mean much to anyone but me.

So here's some highlights:

I ran 14 miles yesterday with my friend Jessica. This, in case you're wondering, is .9 miles longer than we'll run for the half marathon in two weeks. So, we know we can finish. And, perhaps to prove to Chris that I'm not a wimp, I didn't take a nap yesterday or today to recover. Yay me. I'm sure I'll fall asleep around 8:15.

Moira has pretty much stopped napping. She still has quiet time in her crib around the same time each day and is only marginally more grumpy around the dinner hour. So, no hope for 20 minutes of peace and quiet every afternoon when I tuck both girls into their rooms for a few minutes of quiet time. Alas. But Moira is so cute when I come to get her from her room and ask her if she had a good nap and she yells "YEAH!" in her gravely voice. Ellie likes to spend at least twice the time that I make her spend in quiet time asking the point of quiet time, which almost makes it not worth it. However, I still side with Anna Quindlin and say that it's good for kids to have forced boredom at times. And it's nice to know that while they are forced to be bored, they can't draw on the walls, something Moira did twice this week. Sigh. It was so much easier to control writing instruments when there wasn't someone else strewing them around. Woah! Way too much complaining about Moira, there. She's such a doll and SMART--she identified a diamond without prompting and likes to recite We're Going On a Bear Hunt.

Ellie is busy busy busy asking when preschool starts (one week to go) as well as going through spiral bound notebooks with pictures of houses and friends and both of her names. We put the wading pool at the bottom of our swingset slide this week and she and Moira loved their waterslide. We also rotated the toys this week, which is a little like Christmas. The girls had a parade with the musical instruments and then dressed and undressed the baby dolls for a while. Then they played cave and airplane and truck driver in the box. I'm working up to packing up the old toys in their favorite box. Maybe while they nap (bwa ha ha)

Chris went on a work related field trip to irradiate stuff. Cool.

Also, I think I'm going to start a very part time job, teaching developmental writing at the local community college. At first I didn't think I'd be able to because I'd have to teach every day, but the head of the English department was very understanding and willing to work with my schedule. So, it will be two hours two days a week, much more manageable. And then I can still get Ellie to her dance class and preschool. Plus, there are multiple WONDERFUL moms who have offered to take my girls while I teach and they all have kids that mine will love to play with. So far it looks like a good situation.

I took three pictures this week and they turned out to be blurry (the one of the girls in the box together) or have a naked baby and embarrassing household clutter (the one of Moira sitting on Ellie's lap sitting on Chris's lap) or a semi naked baby, household clutter and a bad camera angle (the one of Moira wearing odd parts of the clean laundry while I folded laundry as taken by Ellie). So. Just words from me.

And I think that's all for now.

What is a troglodite? I guess I could google it, but I'm not that ambitious at the moment.

i think that it's less about not having anything to say and more about being afraid to be as amazing as you really are. seriously. you ARE amazing. running a half marathon... for fun? before the actual event??? withOUT a nap??? i'm tired just thinking about it.

teaching classes again! that is fantastic and amazing and something completely wonderful for you. i couldn't be happier to hear that you get to wear grown up clothes and say big words and have people take you seriously.

in the words of my mother, "yippie doodle!!!"

in the words of myself: you are MORE than enough.

xoxo

That is awesome that you are going to teach at the local community college--way to go! It sounds like things are working out to make it happen. Fun you got to go to the exciting BYU game over the weekend and nice job getting a few of the fans worked up!
